Eco Tips inside the route
Stay only in basic family homestays, small guesthouses and community lodges. Always use public buses and collectivos instead of private taxis. Carry one reusable water bottle and never buy single-use plastic bottles. Bring your own cloth bag for markets and refuse plastic bags. Follow Leave No Trace rules strictly in the mountains and keep noise very low in the jungle.
Mistakes to avoid
Many budget travelers try to see too many places and end up tired and less connected to nature. Stick to the slower pace of this route. Another mistake is choosing the cheapest tours without checking their environmental practices. Also avoid bringing too much packaged food in plastic during long bus rides.
Alternative options
If your budget is extremely tight you can remove the Amazon section and spend the full two weeks between the coast and Andes using only buses. For those with a bit more money you can upgrade to slightly better homestays while keeping the nature-first approach. If you prefer one region only, you can extend the Andes portion and cut both coast and Amazon.
