Route Map

Step-by-step itinerary

Day 8-9: Nearby villages and terraces
Visit surrounding villages and ancient agricultural terraces at a relaxed pace. Walk among the impressive stone structures and talk with farmers who still maintain these systems today. Enjoy meals made with fresh local ingredients and support small family kitchens.

Day 10: Return to Cusco and departure
Travel back to Cusco by local transport. Use the remaining time for a calm morning before your flight to Lima.

Eco Tips inside the route

Stay in small family guesthouses or homestays run by local people. Use collectivo vans and local buses instead of private taxis. Always carry a reusable water bottle and refill it at safe places. Eat at small family restaurants and try traditional Andean dishes made with local products. When buying souvenirs, choose items made by local artisans using natural materials and ask about their origin.

Mistakes to avoid

Many travelers treat the Sacred Valley as a quick stop between Cusco and Machu Picchu. Avoid rushing and give yourself enough time to feel the place. Another mistake is eating only in tourist restaurants instead of supporting small local kitchens. Also dont forget to respect local customs and always ask permission before taking photos of people or inside homes.

Alternative options

If you have only 7 days you can shorten the time in the Sacred Valley by two or three days and spend less time in Cusco. For an even tighter budget stay in very basic homestays and cook some meals together with your hosts. Those who want maximum cultural immersion can base themselves in one village for the entire 10 days instead of moving around.
